Why is the mirror an important symbol of “Snow White,” and how does Sexton manipulate the traditional interpretation?
The mirror is an important symbol of "Snow White" because it is the object of superficiality and judgement; it is a clear direct reference to vanity. Sexton's version of Snow White and The Seven Dwarves seems to degrade women. The mirror holds an important status because it is the item that determines who is the most beautiful beyond all. Judging from the content of the poem, it seems that the mirror disregards someones character if they do not meet exterior standards.  Thus, although the stepmother is beautiful, she is so narrcistic that her demeanor illustrates her evil side.
